General Questions

What is Cannabidoil or CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-intoxicating component of the cannabis plant (which is comprised of 113 cannabinoid compounds) with enormous therapeutic potential. Preclinical research and some clinical studies have shown that CBD has strong anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant, anti-depressant, anti-psychotic, anti-tumoral, and neuroprotective qualities.

What can CBD do for me?

CBD has been studied for its potential role in treating many common health issues, including anxiety, depression, chronic pain , inflammation, insomnia, acne & heart disease.
Though there is much to be learned about the efficacy and safety of CBD, encouraging results from recent studies suggest that CBD may provide a safe, powerful natural treatment for many health issues.

Is CBD Legal?

Yes, CBD is legal at a Federal level. It actually has a very strict definition. CBD products must be made from certified Industrial Hemp that contains no more the 0.3% THC or tetrahydocannabinol, which is the intoxicating aspect of Cannabis that creates a “high”. This is very important as there are many products that cannot verify this fact. Ask for a certificate of analysis (or COA) to verify you are buying a legal product. CBD is non-psychoactive and does not produce a “high”, the same cannot be said of THC. We ask all our customers and prospective customers to always be aware of the quality of the products they intend to use.

Is it FDA approved?

Neither the products nor the treatments are FDA approved or been evaluated at this time. We make no claims or statements that CBD is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. A Doctor’s advice should always be sought before using this and any other supplemental dietary product.

Why should a pharmacist be consulted?

While CBD does not require a prescription, it nonetheless has effects that can be positive & negative. The need for CBD should be evaluated, & dosing is very patient specific. There is no one size fit all approach for CBD dosing. Drug-Drug interactions (including CBD and prescription drugs) are important & severe consequences can result especially with patients with multiple chronic conditions & complicated medication regimens. With a valid medication history, education & communication between the patient, their physician & pharmacist many of the medication issues can be resolved.

Most common CBD uses:

Anxiety

Anxiety disorders are characterized by excessive nervousness, fear, apprehension, and worry that is out of proportion. Panic disorder and phobias are considered anxiety disorders. Symptoms include nervousness, tension, panic, a sense of doom, increased heart rate, sweating, fatigue, and/or trouble concentrating. Almost one in three adults in the US experience an anxiety disorder at some time in their lives.

Chronic Pain

hronic pain is defined as any pain lasting more than 12 weeks. It can persist for months or years. Opiates are the most common treatment for chronic pain, even though substantial research shows that they are not effective and can lead to addiction if not handled properly.

Depression

Depression is a common and serious medical illness that causes feelings of sadness. It can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems and can decrease your ability to function at work and at home. Symptoms of depression include fatigue, anxiety, irritability, restlessness, loss of enjoyment, appetite changes, changes in sleep patterns, and thoughts of suicide.

Chronic Inflammation

Inflammation is the process by which your body’s white blood cells protect you from infection. Unregulated inflammation, however, becomes a disease. If the inflammatory process goes on for too long or if the inflammatory response occurs in places where it is not needed, it can become problematic. Symptoms include redness, swelling, pain, and stiffness.

Sleep disorders are conditions that disturb your normal sleep patterns. There are more than 80 different sleep disorders. Difficulty falling or staying asleep is the most common. About 40 million people in the US suffer from chronic long-term sleep disorders each year, and an additional 20 million people experience occasional sleep problems.
